Creede Baptist Church is a fellowship of active born again believers, governed by God, whose primary purpose is to bring honor and glory to the Lord Jesus Christ. According to scripture, we strive to lead these believers, under the direction of the Holy Spirit, to be conformed to the image of Jesus in knowledge, attitude and action. Our membership consists of approximately 50 voting members (over 18 years of age), and we average approximately 20 children attending our youth group meetings on Wednesday. Since Creede is a popular summer residence, during the summer months our attendance averages approximately 150 on Sundays and over 50 on Wednesday evenings.
Creede Baptist Church was formed in 1971 as a mission sponsored by the Calvary Baptist Church of Monte Vista, Colorado. The association purchased property with a meeting room, and in 1977 a sanctuary was constructed, followed by an attached fellowship hall in 1998. Our church is affiliated with the Continental Divide Association, Colorado Baptist General Convention and the Southern Baptist Convention.
Creede Baptist Church is a mission focused church family. In 2016 we budgeted 12 percent of our funds to the Cooperative Program, 3 percent for support of the Colorado Baptist General Convention, and 4.5 percent for the Continental Divide Association. Our church has also been very active in the Samaritan’s Purse program for the last 15 years. Last year we prepared and sent over 1000 boxes for Operation Christmas Child. In addition we support local missions with a Ministry Fund to assist needy residents with home repairs, firewood, fuel, groceries and other benevolent needs such as illness or death in a family. We have twice sent a team of volunteers to South Africa on short-term mission trips to help with programs including building seven village churches led by local native pastors. We are also the sponsoring church for the Campground Ministries Program, providing leaders for Sunday morning services during the summer at seven RV parks and summer residential areas.
Creede is the only town in Mineral County, and was originally developed around mining in the 1890’s. Emphasis is now tourism, summer residences, and the arts. The full-time population of Mineral County is approximately 800. Many more occupy summer homes and RV parks during the summer months. In 2013 voters approved construction of a new school grades K through 12 at a new location near the airport. Creede has been named one of the best art towns in the United States housing the Creede Repertory Theater as well as well as several art galleries. Creede is a small town that has much to offer people due to friendly small town atmosphere and an excellent place to raise a family, or to relocate here to retire. As you follow the winding road along the Rio Grande River into Creede, most people are in awe of God’s amazing beauty. Activities such as hiking, fishing, hunting, four-wheeling, snowmobiling, cross country skiing, skiing at Wolf Creek Ski Area, theater and shopping attract people to Creede.
